Cold wax is a medium that can be added to (among other things) oil paint.  The effect in painting can be similar to encaustic without the need to use heat. Cold wax adds viscosity and transluscence to oil paints and in this workshop we will explore techniques for using this medium.

We will experiment with exercises in additive and subtractive techniques, building layers and, textures using different materials from bubble wrap to corrugated card and collage. We will explore transfer methods or monoprinting as a way to add different marks and move marks about the surface. Our focus on working small will help you progress and feel confident to experiment and play with cold wax medium in a supportive environment and above all have fun.
